Welcome to my faculty web site. Currently, I am Professor in the Department of Arts and Media, in the School of Arts and Humanities at Empire State University. I'm also the Program Coordinator for our BA and BS in Digital Media Arts and Academic Coordinator for online courses in Arts and Media.

I'm proud to be the recipient of the 2022 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities and the Dr. Susan H. Tuben Chair in Mentoring (2021-2022). I also have an honorary appointment of Extraordinary Professor, Research Unit Self-Directed Learning, Faculty of Education, North-West University, South Africa.

My research examines metaliteracy, an empowering pedagogical framework for innovative teaching and learning. In 2011, I originated the metaliteracy model with Trudi E Jacobson in the article Reframing Information Literacy as a Metaliteracy. We have published extensively about the theory and practice of metaliteracy including the fourth book on this topic: Metaliteracy in a Connected World: Developing Learners as Producers (2022)

In addition to my academic interests, I am Chair of the Board of Directors for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society the largest animal welfare organization in the Capital Region of New York. My previous responsibilities included Vice Chair of the Board, and Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.
